Stream overlay & canvas size guide (2026)

Wrong dimensions are the #1 reason a downloaded overlay looks blurry or cropped. Bookmark this page — here are the sizes that actually matter.

Streaming canvas

1920x1080 — standard Full HD canvas for Twitch, YouTube and Kick. Use this unless you have a specific reason not to.
1280x720 — lighter on upload bandwidth, still widely used and fully supported.

Overlay elements

Full-screen overlay/background: match your canvas exactly — 1920x1080.
Webcam/facecam frame: size the cutout to your webcam's real aspect ratio (usually 16:9), typically 25-35% of canvas width.
Alert box pop-ups: commonly 400x300 to 600x400, positioned away from your webcam and chat.
Chat box panel: around 350-450px wide, height flexible depending on message count.

Twitch-specific assets

Twitch panels: 320-1200px wide, no fixed height, under 2MB (PNG/JPG/GIF).
Offline banner: 1920x1080.
Profile picture: 256x256 (displays as a circle, keep the subject centered).
Sub badges: 18x18, 36x36 and 72x72 (all three sizes required).
Bit emotes: 28x28, 56x56 and 112x112.

Other platforms

YouTube channel banner: 2560x1440, keep text/logos inside the 1546x423 safe area (it gets cropped differently on mobile/TV).
Discord server icon: 512x512.
Discord server banner: 960x540.
X/Twitter header: 1500x500.
Instagram post: 1080x1080 (square) or 1080x1350 (portrait, gets more feed space).

Quick rule of thumb

Always design (or buy) overlay assets at 1920x1080 for the full-canvas pieces, export as transparent PNG for anything that isn't a full background, and only resize down in your streaming software — never up. Scaling a small image up is what causes the blur everyone blames on their overlay pack.
